REGISTAR FOR THIS YEAR’S HAMILTON/HYBRID TTISS MEETING

Annual Meeting October 25, 2024

Every year, TTISS-ON holds an annual meeting in Toronto, ON with attendees from across the province, including physicians, transfusion safety officers, technologists, RNs, and representatives from Canadian Blood Services and plasma manufacturers. This year’s meeting will by a hybrid “virtual” and “in-person”.

This years meeting will not dissappoint!    Transfusion-associated circulatory overload  (TACO) is defined as acute respiratory distress, with symptoms including tachycardia, hypertension, pulmonary oedema and/or evidence of positive fluid balance occurring within 6 hours after transfusion. These reactions account for the majority of all major transfusion reactions and are sometimes queried as possible TRALIs, or TADs.   TACOs typically are not reportable to Health Canada, as they are not due to blood quality or safety of the blood.  However, TACOs, that meet the criteria of “serious” and/or “atypical” are to be reported in certain circumstances. This years meeting will discuss many questions and thought-provoking insights looking at th this type of reaction through new eyes.  The format will be three presentations, followed by 3 interactive case reviews.

The meeting will be held at:

David Braley Health Sciences Centre, McMaster University

100 Main St W, Hamilton, ON L8P 1H6
