The BPCO launched the Ontario Regional Blood Coordinating Network (ORBCoN) initiative to provide an organized and integrated approach to blood management in Ontario. ORBCoN has also been created as the mechanism to engage hospitals and CBS; coordinate educational initiatives to facilitate the adoption of best practices and improve patient safety; and to assist with implementing aspects of the Blood Utilization Strategy and carrying out provincial projects. Many of the resources found on this website were developed through ORBCoN.

ORBCoN has many resources for transfusion practice including the Transfusion Safety Officer (TSO) Resource Manual was developed to be used as a reference for Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLT), Registered Nurses (RN) and other healthcare professionals appointed to the Transfusion Safety Officer role. This resource is intended to be utilized by hospitals or institutions that do not have a formal TSO in place but have responsibilities that are delegated to certain healthcare personnel.
